They say we all have to fulfil three major goals in life: having a child, writing a book and planting a tree. And in these times of green concern, planting a tree has pretty much sense not only to preserve the environment, but to preserve us as living specie.
According to a studio held with 3 144 elderly people by Tokyo Medical School, people who live in wide green areas and homes with natural light live 5 years more than residents of congested urban zones or areas with a degraded environment. The conclusion: staring at tress makes life longer.
Reasons are not explained, however, some facts can give us a clue:
- Every tree is capable of producing 1.6 gallons of oxygen a day.
- Another study in Japan says that walking in the woods for 30 minutes helps reduce the rate of cortisol (stress hormone) and enhances the immune system.
